Protsy AI and Insights
This chapter covers Protsy's AI features: Protsy AI, where you can run your store through chat; approval cards; chat history; the Insights page; weekly and monthly AI reports; and how AI jobs are deducted from your credit balance.
Where do you use AI in Protsy?
You can reach AI in Protsy from two places:
- Protsy AI chat (address:
/ai): A full-page chat where you can get almost any store task done. It builds listings, summarizes your sales, previews price and SEO changes, and handles orders and social media tasks. - AI in the listing editor: The AI help you use while editing a single listing. Details are in the Listings chapter.
Protsy AI chat
Note: This feature appears if it is enabled on your account.
Protsy AI works with the same tools as the Protsy connector you link to ChatGPT and Claude. The page description reads "Drop photos and a note to build a listing, or ask anything about your shop. One chat, every tool."
Opening the chat
You can open Protsy AI in any of these ways:
- Click the New chat row at the top of the sidebar.
- In the Protsy AI tile on the Dashboard, click Start a chat. If you've chatted before, this tile lists your five most recent chats. Click one to open that chat.
- Type the
/aiaddress directly into your browser.
The page starts with an empty chat every time it opens. To go back to an earlier chat, use the history in the sidebar (see Chat history).
Warning: If paid billing is enabled, creating listings with Protsy AI is included in paid plans. If you're on the trial plan, you'll see an upgrade suggestion on the page. For plans, see the Dashboard and Settings chapter.
What can it do?
In an empty chat, you'll see sample requests under the heading What are we making today? Click one to put its text in the message box:
- Build a listing from these photos
- What sold this week?
- Draft a listing from my last design (appears only in POD stores)
- Preview a 10% price rise on everything under 20 views
In general, you can ask Protsy AI for the following:
- Creating listings: Drop in your photos or a short note. Protsy AI picks the category, checks your store settings, and writes the listing. The result is a hidden draft on Etsy that buyers can't see.
- Store questions: Sales, profit, orders, listings that need attention, period comparisons, the impact of discounts.
- Bulk editing: It previews price, tag, title, variation, or SEO changes first and applies them once you approve. Bulk changes can be undone.
- Mockups and images: Generating mockups, enhancing images, adding POD designs.
- Orders and shipping: Listing orders waiting to ship, marking an order as shipped, editing shipping rules.
- Marketing: Writing social media copy, posting Pinterest pins, scheduling social posts, drafting review requests for orders that haven't received a review.
- Scheduling: Taking Etsy drafts live at a specific time, changing or canceling scheduled publishes.
Tip: There's no separate screen for review requests. You can ask Protsy AI something like "list the orders that have shipped but have no review, and write a review request." Details are in the Orders, Shipping, and Finance chapter.
Writing messages and adding files
The box at the bottom reads "Ask Protsy AI… (Enter to send, Shift+Enter for a new line)". Type your message and press Enter. While a reply is coming in, you can cut it off with the Stop button.
The + button on the left of the box opens these options:
- Add photos: Adds up to 10 photos from your computer.
- Design library: Adds one of your saved POD designs. Appears only in POD stores.
- Templates: Picks one of your listing templates. The selected template appears below the box as Template: {name}. For templates, see the Templates chapter.
Other controls in the box:
- Model: Choose the quality level of the reply: Basic, Pro, or Max. A higher level gives better results but spends more credits.
- Record voice: You can speak your message. When you stop recording, your speech is transcribed into text. Your browser asks for microphone permission.
Note: If the listing wizard is turned on for your account, adding photos to the chat switches the screen to the step-by-step listing wizard. The wizard creates a hidden draft on Etsy. Below the box, it reads "Protsy creates a hidden Etsy draft. Nothing goes live until you publish it yourself." The wizard's steps are covered in the Listings chapter.
What do you see while Protsy AI is working?
While Protsy AI is doing a job, it shows the tools it's using above the message: "Running {tool}…", "{tool} finished", or "{tool} failed". If it used more than one tool, you see a "{count} tool calls" summary. When a listing is created, a link to the listing appears in the chat.
Approval cards
Protsy AI doesn't do certain jobs without your approval. The text below the chat box says so too: "Anything that changes a live listing, spends money or publishes waits for your approval."
Which jobs require approval?
The top of the approval card says why the job needs approval:
| What the card says | When it appears |
|---|---|
| This changes a live Etsy listing that buyers can see. | When the title, price, attributes, personalization, photos, or variations of a single live listing will change; when a draft's publishing time will be scheduled |
| This writes to several live listings at once. | When a bulk edit, bulk SEO, or bulk variation change will be applied or undone |
| This creates a listing on Etsy (as a hidden draft). | When a new draft or shop section will be created on Etsy |
| This changes an order or your shipping rules. | When an order will be marked as shipped or shipping rules will change |
| This spends money from your account. | For jobs that spend credits or money, such as generating mockups, enhancing images, adding POD designs, or buying shipping labels |
| This publishes to a connected social account. | When something will be posted to Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube, a social post will be scheduled, or a Pinterest board will be created |
| This deletes something that cannot be restored. | When a listing template will be deleted |
Read-only jobs (such as a sales summary or an order list), writing SEO copy, and preview steps don't require approval. For bulk jobs, Protsy AI previews the change first. Only the apply step needs approval.
What's on the card?
- Title: The job to be done. For example, "Create this listing on Etsy as a draft?" or "Generate {n} mockup(s)?". For other jobs, it reads "Protsy AI wants to run {tool}".
- What will be written: When creating a listing, the title, Price, Quantity, Category, Variations, Shipping profile, Photos, and tag count. Values that come from a template appear as From template.
- How many credits: For jobs that spend credits, the estimated cost, Total, and Balance.
- Show what it will send: Opens the full set of information Protsy AI will send.
- The Approve and run or Decline buttons.
Tip: If the suggested category is wrong, click Change in the Category row and select the correct category. Your choice is passed on to Protsy AI.
Warning: If the Photos row reads "No photos — the listing will be created without product photos.", consider adding photos before you approve.
After you decide, the card stays in the chat as a record and shows its status: Approved — running, Declined, or Skipped.
Skipping credit approval
If you don't want to see a card every time for jobs that spend credits, you can turn on the "Skip the plan approval when creating listings with AI" setting on the Account page. While it's on, if your balance is enough, credit-spending jobs such as generating mockups, enhancing images, and adding POD designs start without showing a card. The card stays in the chat with the note "Ran automatically — auto-approve is on."
Note: This setting applies only to jobs that spend credits. Live listing changes, orders, and social posts always require approval. Buying shipping labels always requires approval because it spends real money.
Pending approvals
If a suggestion is waiting for approval, an AI suggestions to approve row appears in the Waiting on you strip at the top of the Dashboard. Click it to open Protsy AI.
Chat history
Note: This feature appears if it is enabled on your account.
Your Protsy AI chats are listed in the lower half of the sidebar. The list belongs to your active store. When you switch stores, that store's chats appear.
- Pinned: Chats you've pinned stay at the top.
- Recent chats: Other chats, newest to oldest.
From the ⋯ menu (Chat actions) next to a chat, you can:
- Pin / Unpin
- Rename: The title can be up to 120 characters.
- Delete: When you confirm the question "Delete this chat? This cannot be undone.", the chat is deleted.
Chats you haven't given a title appear as Untitled chat.
Tip: To find an old chat, use the search box in the top bar ("Search chats and listings…", shortcut ⌘K). The Chats tab searches only your chats.
Note: When you collapse the sidebar, the chat history is hidden. It comes back when you expand it.
Insights
Click Insights in the sidebar (address: /insights). The page has two tabs: Keywords & SEO and Traffic.
Keywords & SEO
This tab's heading is Keyword Insights. AI scores the keywords in your listings by demand and competition.
- The ⭐ Superstar keywords table shows low-competition keywords sorted by opportunity. The columns are Keyword, Listing, Score, Competition (Low / Medium / High), Demand, and Action.
- The Action column shows one of three suggestions: Add to title & tags (the keyword is missing from the listing), Well placed, or ✓ performing.
To recalculate the keywords, click Refresh. While the calculation runs, the button reads Computing….
Tip: If you see the warning "Partial results — connect Google Analytics for demand data.", connect Google Analytics. Demand scores are then calculated with your real search data. For connecting, see the Integrations chapter.
Traffic
This tab shows your Google Analytics (GA4) data: Sessions, Users, Pageviews, Bounce rate, Top pages, traffic sources, devices, keywords, cities, and countries.
- Choose the period at the top: Today, Yesterday, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, This month, This year, Last year, or All time. Your choice is remembered in this browser.
- To update the figures, click Refresh.
- In the AI Insight section, click Generate AI insight. AI interprets your figures and produces a Recommendations list. This uses AI credits (Uses AI credits).
- If the saved insight was written in another language, the button becomes Translate to English. Click it and the insight is rewritten in English.
Note: The insight belongs to the period you selected. If the warning "Written from an older snapshot…" appears, the figures were refreshed after the insight was written. For an up-to-date insight, click Regenerate.
If GA4 isn't connected, the tab shows a Connect Google Analytics card and a Go to Connection settings → link.
Weekly and monthly AI reports
Protsy automatically writes short weekly and monthly AI reports for your store.
- Weekly report: Every week, it writes a summary of the previous week (Monday–Sunday).
- Monthly report: Every month, it writes a summary of the previous month.
Reports are based on the active listings in your connected Etsy store and the orders in the period. If your store has no active listings, no report is created. For a monthly report, the oldest active listing in the store must be at least 30 days old.
You can reach the reports from:
- The Weekly report tile on the Dashboard, which shows the title and a short summary of the latest report. Open the full report with Read the report →. If there's no report yet, the tile reads No report yet.
- The Weekly Reports and Monthly Reports links at the bottom of the Profit & Fees page (see Orders, Shipping, and Finance).
- The
/reports/weeklyand/reports/monthlyaddresses directly.
On the weekly reports page, each report is a row. Click a row to read the full report.
SEO suggestions
You get SEO suggestions in Protsy from three places:
- Insights → Keywords & SEO: Shows which keyword should be added to which listing's title and tags (see above).
- Listing editor: Generates a title, description, and tags for a single listing. Details are in the Listings chapter.
- Protsy AI: Refreshes SEO for multiple listings in bulk. It shows a preview first and applies the change after you approve. If you don't like the result, you can ask Protsy AI to undo the change.
Credits and AI usage
Note: If the credit system isn't enabled on your account, the Credits row doesn't appear in the account menu, and AI jobs run without deducting credits.
In Protsy, all AI jobs are deducted from a single credit wallet. The page description says so too: "Your wallet powers every AI action — photos, videos, and chat."
Credits page
If the credit system is enabled on your account, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar to open the account menu, then click the Credits row (address: /credits). This row also shows your balance.
- Available credits: Your current balance. When your balance drops below 200 credits, the warning "Running low — top up to keep generating." appears.
- Top up: Buy a credit pack. "Buy a credit pack — credits never expire."
- Manage subscription: Opens your payment and subscription details.
- Plan cards: You can change your plan here (Current plan, Choose a plan, Subscribe).
- Recent activity: Your last 50 credit transactions, newest to oldest. Each row shows the name of the job (for example, mockup, chat, seo), when it happened, and the amount. Spending appears as negative; top-ups and refunds appear as positive.
Note: If you're billed through Shopify, you'll see a Manage plan in Shopify button instead of Top up and Manage subscription. "Billed through Shopify. Credits refill every billing cycle."
The Credits & AI jobs tile on the Dashboard also shows Balance, Spent this month, Jobs completed, and Jobs failed.
What are credits spent on?
These jobs spend credits:
- Generating photos, mockups, scenes, and videos; enhancing images, removing backgrounds, and upscaling
- Protsy AI chats
- Creating listings, SEO copy, alt text, and photo analysis
- Transcribing voice recordings
- The AI Insight on the Traffic tab
- AI generation you run through the ChatGPT or Claude connector (see Integrations)
How are credits deducted?
- Chat and text jobs: Deducted after the job finishes, based on actual usage. If your balance is empty, the job doesn't start.
- Image and video jobs: When the job starts, an estimated amount is held from your balance. When the job finishes, the actual cost is calculated and the difference goes back to your balance.
- If an image is generated that doesn't pass Protsy's quality check, the credits for that job are refunded. These refunds appear as positive amounts in Recent activity.
- The higher the model level (Basic, Pro, Max), the more credits the same job spends. You can change the default levels with the AI quality level setting on the Account page.
If your balance isn't enough for a job, the Out of credits window appears: "You don't have enough credits for this action. Top up to continue."
Frequently asked questions
Will Protsy AI change my listing without me knowing? No. Every job that changes a live listing, spends money or credits, changes an order or shipping rule, or posts to social media asks for an approval card. The job doesn't run unless you approve the card.
Does a listing created by Protsy AI go on sale right away? No. Protsy AI creates the listing on Etsy as a hidden draft that buyers can't see. You review the draft and publish it yourself.
I don't see chat history or "New chat" in my sidebar. Why? Protsy AI may not be enabled on your account. If you've collapsed the sidebar, the history is hidden too.
Why is my weekly report still empty? The weekly report is written every Monday for the previous week; if you connected your store this week, you'll see your first report next Monday. If your Etsy store has no active listings, no report is created.
I don't see the Credits row in my account menu. Why? The credit system isn't enabled on your account. In that case, AI jobs run without deducting credits.
